Layer

New work for fine art startup, Layer.

Layer is a new brainchild of DeviantArt co-founder Angelo Sotira (high school me would’ve fanboyed out hard), and the company has designed and produced a new range of self-contained, ultra-high quality displays for generative and other digital art. This gorgeous hardware breathes life into dynamic works that may otherwise only be seen on less than ideal off-the-shelf monitors, and they look absolutely incredible in person. The company has partnered with a growing Who’s Who roster of contemporary artists to showcase the hardware’s capability, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves. Thanks kindly to the Layer team for having me.

In addition to a few headshots of founder Angelo at Layer’s office, I photographed artist Jeres around their L.A. neighborhood, and spent an afternoon with computational art legend, Casey Reas, at his UCLA studio.
